Custom Seat Covers for Christmas: When to Order So They Arrive in Time

Published on 2026-10-04

Every year, the same thing happens in early December: someone decides a fresh car interior would be the perfect Christmas present — for themselves or for the driver in the family — and discovers that made-to-order seat covers aren't something you pick up off a shelf the week before.

If you'd like new seats in the car for the Christmas drive home, the good news is that early October is exactly the right time to start planning. Here's how the timing works, what to sort out first, and how to make it a gift without spoiling the surprise.

Why Timing Matters With Custom Seat Covers

Our covers are not stock items. Every set is cut to the pattern for your specific make and model and sewn in the colours and stitching you chose. That's why they fit like original upholstery rather than sliding around like a universal cover — and it's also why they take time.

The standard waiting period for car seat covers is 6–8 weeks from the date of payment, as stated on our how to order page. That period covers pattern preparation, cutting, sewing and quality checks before your set is ready for dispatch or fitting. If you want to know what happens at each stage, we walk through it in From Order to Fitted Seats: What Happens After You Buy.

Working Backwards From Christmas

The simplest way to plan is to count back from the date you want the covers in the car:

  • Christmas Day minus 8 weeks lands at the very end of October.
  • That means an order paid for in October sits comfortably inside the standard window.
  • An order placed in mid-November or later is cutting it fine, because there's little room left if anything needs clarifying about your car.

Remember that the clock starts when payment is made, not when you first open the configurator. Designing your seats can take an evening or two of changing your mind about colours — so give yourself that time before the date you're aiming for, not after it.

It's also worth leaving a small buffer of your own. December is busy for everyone, from couriers to the people you're visiting, and you'll enjoy the covers far more fitted calmly on a quiet weekend than rushed in on Christmas Eve.

What to Have Ready Before You Order

Most delays happen before the order is even placed, so get these sorted first:

1. Confirm your exact car

Patterns are made for specific vehicles, so you'll need the make, model and year — and it helps to know whether you have a split rear bench, armrests or seat-mounted side airbags. Check that your car is listed on our car list. If it isn't there, contact us before you order rather than guessing.

2. Choose your design

The 3D configurator lets you pick material, colours and stitching and see the result before you commit, along with the live price for your car. If you're stuck between options, browse the colours page and our gallery of finished interiors, or read Choosing Colours and Stitching That Match Your Car's Interior.

3. Decide how you'll fit them

You have two options:

  • Fit them yourself at home using the step-by-step guide on our installation page. Allow an unhurried afternoon, and read the airbag safety notes before you start.
  • Have them fitted at our Dublin workshop at Unit 229, Blanchardstown Corporate Park 2, Ballycoolin Road, Dublin 15. Professional fitting is available exclusively there.

If you plan a workshop fitting in December, mention it when you order so the appointment can be planned around your production date.

Delivery Across Ireland

If you're fitting the covers yourself, delivery within Ireland is free, with tracking included, using DPD or An Post Express. Covers are packed professionally, so they arrive ready to fit. For a gift, think about where the parcel goes — sending it to your own address rather than the recipient's keeps the surprise intact.

Giving Seat Covers as a Christmas Gift

Seat covers make a genuinely useful present for anyone who spends a lot of time in their car: a new driver, a parent doing the school runs, a tradesperson in a van, or someone who just bought a second-hand car with tired seats. A few tips:

  • Find out the car details quietly. The make, model and year are usually on the insurance or tax paperwork, or a quick look at the car itself. Note the rear seat layout too.
  • Play it safe on colour. If you're not sure of their taste, black or a dark grey with a subtle contrast stitch suits almost any interior. Bold two-tone designs are best left to people you know well.
  • Wrap the idea, not just the box. If the covers won't be ready by the day, a printed screenshot of their design from the configurator makes a fine card — they'll know exactly what's coming.
  • Think about who fits them. A fitting appointment at the workshop can be part of the present, especially for someone who'd rather not spend an afternoon working around headrests and seat belts.

Paying for Your Order

Online orders are paid through the checkout, processed securely by Revolut Business, which accepts cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. For workshop orders, a €200 non-refundable deposit secures your order and appointment. Full details are on the payment options page. Because the 6–8 week period runs from the date of payment, paying promptly is part of getting in before Christmas.

Quick Christmas Checklist

  • Check your car on the car list
  • Design your set in the 3D configurator and note the live price
  • Decide between DIY installation and workshop fitting
  • Place and pay for your order — ideally during October
  • Plan where the parcel is delivered (especially if it's a gift)
  • Block out a quiet weekend in December for fitting

FAQ

Can I order in December and still have covers for Christmas? It's unlikely. With a standard 6–8 week waiting period from payment, a December order will normally be ready in the new year. That's still a great start to the year, but not a Christmas present on the day.

Does the waiting period start when I design my seats? No — it starts from the date of payment.

Is delivery free anywhere in Ireland? Yes, delivery within Ireland is free and tracked.

Can someone else bring the car for fitting? If you're giving covers as a gift with a workshop fitting, contact us in advance to arrange the appointment.

Start early, keep a little buffer, and your car — or someone else's — can head into the Christmas holidays with an interior that looks brand new.
